Meet Dr. James Carroll
Dr. James Carroll is an Internist and HIV Primary Care Specialist, who for nearly 25 years has been committed to providing high quality and personalized care with the goal of affirming and empowering patients to take charge of their health.
Dr. Carroll trained at the LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans, LA, and completed Internship and Residency Programs at the Earl K Long (EKL) Medical Center in Baton Rouge, LA. Following a year of work with Kaiser Permanente, Dr. Carroll returned to EKL Medical Center as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine, where for nine years he cared for patients with HIV. He participated in multiple provider and patient facing educational programs and was instrumental in the founding of the local ANAC chapter, the Baton Rouge Area Nurses in AIDS Care (BRAINIAC). Dr. Carroll has also previously served as a provider at Legacy Community Health, and was the Medical Director of the AIDS Healthcare Foundation’s flagship clinic, the Hollywood Healthcare Center in Hollywood, California. He returned home to Houston in 2021 and is proud to once again be part of the team at Legacy Community Health.
Dr. Carroll believes that it is his responsibility to enable patients to make their own health care decisions, and that through this collaborative approach to patient care, patients benefit with improved quality of life and overall better long-term outcomes. To this end, he participates in patient educational programs and provide educational lectures for his peers. Dr. Carroll is proudly involved in the LGBT Community. He self-cares through bicycling and spending time near the water.
